On June 1st I was told that it should be ready "next week for completion. Presumably this was to enable no break in the sale of other, hopefully less brokeass cars than the one I purchased. It took them till May 31st to assign a technician and find it a rack. They received the 'new' engine (I was advised it was one with less mileage than my paid for Prius, so fine.) on May 22nd. This was covered by the 30 day warranty thankfully.

When I dropped the car off, after having it two weeks driving without white smoke, I was told that they confirmed I would need a new engine. After exiting the tunnel and looking for a place to pull over it stopped and so I drove to my destination slowly. As I approached Old Tunnel I saw white smoke coming out of the back. I picked it up and headed to Old Tunnel on the way to Walnut Creek on April 14th. I purchased a 2017 Prius 2, it was in Pomona and driven up to Oakland for pick up.

I cannot recommend this company and wholeheartedly suggest that people STAY AWAY. At this point, I don't care what their resolution is. As of now, I have been on hold for 43 minutes, just trying to get someone on the phone to ask.
SHIFT CARSON UPDATE
They've had the car for five days and I have not been able to get an update on what is going on, what the plan is, if they'll give me my money back, or try to fix the vehicle, etc. I sent Shift the report and they offered to pick up the car and transport it back to the Shift service department at their expense. Additionally, the break fluid is low and it's throwing codes related to the airbags being under voltage and the ABS. Some of the most important being multiple oil leaks and the fact that someone (I don't know if it was Shift or the previous owner) replaced the break pads without replacing the rotors, which are in dire need of replacement. A long list (four pages worth) of issues were discovered. I took the car to be inspected by a trusted mechanic. It took about a week and a half to complete the process and another couple of days for the car to be delivered. I purchased a vehicle from Shift-that part of the process was not as easy as expected. The subject matter isn't especially important in the overall scheme of things, but it's a fun behind the scenes look at a memorable time in the entertainment industry. This has been an ongoing saga that is still playing out, but my experience thus far is enough for me to give only one star. In the end, this is light and entertaining viewing. In the movie, Kathy Bates was perfect in the role, although not quite as out of control as Carter's portrayal of the woman in writing. In the book, the most interesting of the central figures was probably Leno's agent, Helen Kushnick. In a less central role, Rich Little not surprisingly nailed the voice of Carson, although the look was a bit off. His whole "look" seemed fake, and he just didn't seem natural in the role. Daniel Roebuck tried valiantly to be Jay Leno, but somehow didn't pull it off as effectively. Watching him really was like watching Letterman. John Michael Higgins nailed the part of Letterman perfectly.
SHIFT CARSON TV
I can think of no more difficult performance for an actor than to play a character who is still alive and well-known and on TV on a regular basis. The highlight is clearly the performances.
SHIFT CARSON MOVIE
All things considered, though, and given the limitations of the medium, the movie provides a wholly entertaining and informative account of the battle between Jay Leno and David Letterman in the early 90's to host "The Tonight Show" after the retirement of Johnny Carson. It provides more detail than a movie can possibly provide, the end result being that I thought the movie seemed a wee bit sketchy on a handful of items. The book is certainly stronger than the movie. I read the book written by Bill Carter on which this movie is based many years ago.
